‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is already making box office history in India even before its theatrical release. The latest Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures superhero spectacle, starring Tom Holland in the lead, has registered unprecedented advance ticket sales. The film’s phenomenal success has overtaken ‘Avengers: Endgame’ to set a new benchmark for a Hollywood film in the country.According to the latest box office estimates, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has sold tickets worth more than Rs 85 crore gross for its opening weekend, with over Rs 45 crore generated from just its opening day pre-sales alone. With these early estimates, the film is now expected to surpass the Rs 90 crore gross bookings record previously held by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ for its opening weekend in 2019.Various trade analysts also predict that the film could just set itself up to become the first Hollywood release in India to cross the Rs 100 crore gross pre-sales milestone before the end of its opening weekend.In terms of admissions, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ held the record for the highest first-day ticket sales among Hollywood releases in India, with approximately 10.25 lakh tickets sold. It was followed by ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ with around 5.50 lakh tickets and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ with 4.86 lakh admissions.Advance bookings have remained strong across multiplex chains, with premium formats such as IMAX and 4DX in major metropolitan cities. The film has also recorded an overall occupancy of nearly 39 per cent for its opening day. The record-breaking pre-sales have also positioned ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ for what could become the biggest opening ever for a Hollywood film in India.Beyond the Indian box office, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is tracking for one of the biggest global openings in cinema history. The film has already clocked the biggest opening day for any film in China since ‘Avengers: Endgame’, making USD 35 million. It’s now on track for a USD 130 million to USD 150 million haul by Sunday, the best opening for ANY Hollywood movie in China this decade, surpassing even the ‘Avatar’ movies.‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ releases in Indian cinemas on July 30 in multiple languages.
