The controversy began after a video of a priest chanting a sacred mantra started circulating online. Some users claimed that the same recording had been copied and used in the introduction sequence of Suriya’s character in ‘Karuppu.’ As the posts gained attention, Sai Abhyankkar took to his Instagram story feed to clear the air. He explained that the chant heard in the film was not lifted from any online video. Instead, he let on that the whole segment was recorded specifically in his own studio for the movie. His clarification soon went viral on social media, quashing the rumours about the background score.
Composer reveals how the devotional recording was created
The chanting was performed by Ananth Narayanan, a priest from Kashi, who was brought in specifically for the recording, said Sai Abhyankkar. “The Sanskrit mantras should be authentic and pronounced right,” said the composer. The team arranged a new recording session under professional studio conditions instead of using an existing clip. His explanation was appreciated by many fans, who praised the attempt to keep the film’s soundtrack musically sound and culturally accurate.
