Updating the exit date is an important step before applying for PF withdrawal. According to the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), members can submit or update their date of exit after 60 days from the date they leave their job. The online process removes the need to visit an EPFO office and helps members complete their PF withdrawal application without unnecessary delays.
Why updating EPF exit date is important
The date of exit confirms when an employee left an organisation. If this information is missing or incorrect, members may face issues while applying for EPF withdrawal or transferring their PF balance.As mentioned above, EPFO allows members to update this information themselves through the Member Unified Portal, provided 60 days have passed since leaving the job. “After 60 Days from the date of leaving of services, the member can him self submit / update Date of Exit online through Member Portal,” reads one of the FAQs on the EPFO website.
How to update EPF exit date
Here’s a step-by-step guide on how users can update their exit date:
- Visit Member Unified Portal
- Enter UAN, Password and CAPTCHA.
- Go to Manage and Click Mark Exit
- Choose ‘PF Account Number’ from ‘select employment’ drop down
- Enter ‘Date of Exit’ and ‘Reason of Exit’
- Click on option‘RequestOTP’and enter OTP sent on your Aadhaar linked Mobile Number
- Give your consent by selecting the Checkbox
- Click ‘Update’
- Click ‘OK’
Note: Keep your Aadhaar-linked mobile number activeMembers should ensure that their Aadhaar is linked with their UAN and that the Aadhaar-linked mobile number is active, as the OTP needed to complete the request is sent to that number.
