CM Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan' controversy grows after minister attends screening with kids despite the film carrying an 'A' certificate

Even as ‘Jana Nayagan’ continues to draw huge crowds across Tamil Nadu, a fresh controversy has shifted attention away from the film itself. Since it’s Vijay‘s first release after becoming Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, more eyes are on the film from all sides, and the government issued strict rules to theatres across the state. But the latest issue involves a Tamil Nadu minister, whose visit to a theatre with his family has sparked debate on social media. Since the film has been certified ‘A’ by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), questions have been raised after visuals of the minister attending the screening with his children began circulating online.

Minister watches ‘Jana Nayagan’ with family despite ‘A’ certificate

Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ hit theatres on Thursday (July 23) amid massive fan celebrations. As Vijay’s final film before stepping away from acting, the release generated extraordinary excitement. As reported by News 18, in Ramanathapuram, the film was screened in three theatres, where Tamil Nadu Environment Minister Rajeev visited a cinema hall around 4 pm along with his wife, children, and other family members to watch the film.

Social media users question the theatre visit

The controversy started because ‘Jana Nayagan’ has received an ‘A’ certificate, which means it is meant only for adult audiences. Under CBFC rules, children are not permitted to watch such films in theatres. After videos and photos of the minister’s family outing surfaced online, many social media users questioned how children were allowed inside the screening. The incident has drawn criticism, with several users saying the certification rules should apply to everyone equally.

Debate shifts from film to certification rules

While ‘Jana Nayagan’ still has a good response at the box office, the talk about the minister’s visit to the theatre has become a hot topic online. The controversy has raised the question once again whether the guidelines of CBFC certification are being followed and whether theatres are strictly following them.
