India vs Netherlands Live Score, Hockey World Cup 2026: Lineups announced, match set for 9:30pm IST

India vs Netherlands Hockey World Cup Live: The Indian women’s hockey team face a tough challenge when they take on the Netherlands in their opening match of the second stage of the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 on Friday.

The Netherlands are the reigning Olympic champions, having won gold at Paris 2024. They will also have home support when India face them at the Wagener Stadium in the Netherlands at 9:30 pm IST.

For India, the match is an important first step towards the semi-finals.

India enter second stage unbeaten

India have made an encouraging start to the tournament and remain unbeaten.

They began with a draw against China before producing a strong 6-1 win over South Africa. They then held England to a 0-0 draw.

Those results helped India finish second in Pool D and qualify for the second stage along with China.

India and China will carry one point each into Pool E after their draw against each other. That point could become important as India look to finish in the top two and reach the semi-finals.

The top two teams from Pools E and F will qualify for the last four.

Attack and defence give India confidence

India have shown good balance in their performances so far.

The 6-1 win over South Africa showed the team’s attacking strength and ability to make the most of their chances. The goalless draw against England, meanwhile, highlighted India’s defensive organisation.

The challenge will now be much tougher against the Netherlands.

The Dutch team have regularly performed at the highest level and will also have the advantage of playing in front of their home crowd.

Australia next for India

India will have little time to rest after the Netherlands game.

Their second match in Pool E will be against Australia on August 23 at 10:30 pm IST.

The two matches could play a major role in deciding India’s position in the pool and their chances of reaching the semi-finals.

Men’s team also face Netherlands

The Indian men’s team will also face the Netherlands in their opening second-stage match, but a day later.

They will take on the Dutch on August 22 at 7:30 pm IST, before playing Argentina on August 24 at 6:15 pm IST.

Unlike the women’s team, the men will start the second stage without carrying any points from Pool D.

India finished second in their pool after beating Wales 3-1 and Pakistan 5-3. England topped the pool after beating India 4-2 and will carry the advantage into the next stage.

India need a strong start

Both Indian teams now face the reigning Olympic champions in their opening second-stage matches.

For the women’s team, a positive result against the Netherlands would provide a major boost to their semi-final hopes. With every point becoming important at this stage, India will need to maintain the consistency they have shown so far.
