Stock Market Highlights Today: BSE Sensex crashes over 1,670 points, Nifty50 slips below 23,900 after Trump says Iran ceasefire is ‘over’

Indian benchmark equity indices witnessed a sharp selloff on Wednesday, with the Sensex and Nifty falling more than 2 per cent each, as rising crude oil prices, weak global cues and renewed geopolitical tensions dented investor sentiment.

The market decline gathered pace during the second half of the trading session after US President Donald Trump said that an interim agreement with Iran to end the conflict was “over”, triggering fresh concerns over escalating tensions in the Middle East and their potential impact on global energy supplies.

Earlier on Tuesday, Sensex ended104.35 points lower at 78,180.72, while Nifty50 slipped 31.65 points to 24,398.70, with gains in IT stocks offset by weakness in realty and metals.

Investors will track the market’s reaction to rising oil prices alongside the US Federal Reserve’s meeting minutes, the start of the Q1 earnings season, FII flows after a net purchase of Rs 393.19 crore, and rupee’s movement after it strengthened to 94.96 against the US dollar in the previous session.

Together, these factors are expected to shape the direction of stock market in the days ahead. Track TOI’s coverage on BSE Sensex and Nifty50 to know which way stock markets are headed:
